Blogger´s Quilt Festival - merry christmas!!

it is the season: Amys Blogger´s Quilt Festival is happening right now!!

my entry is my christmas quilt - totally appropriate in May because i kind of miss using this quilt right now and can´t wait for winter time to get it out again. oh well, "can´t wait" might be a bit too strong.. :-)

It is my forth quilt ever and i learned quite a lot of things making it.

the quilt top actually became the backing - i sewed together the fabulous Michael Miller Funky Christmas fabric as an easy top in big pieces just to find out that it did not contrast enough and was all over a bit too much pattern.

so i came up with another top, this time using the Miller stuff just surrounding the stars and some blocks and lots of Kaufmans Essex cotton-linen blend as sashing. and more contrast was added by the solid.

the batting is a 80/20 wool/polyester mix for warmth. i did not have any wool batting on hand and liked the lightness of this batting due to the quite heavy Essex-fabric.

the bright red solid is a local warehouse brand which fits just nicely i think.
i am especially happy that i put those little red squares in the middle of the blocks.funky christmas quilt star square

I quilted it in straight lines and i noticed how much better than my first quilts the quilting was. not perfect, mind you, but better..

Last Christmas Time i spent quite some time under/with this quilt and loved the mixture of fabrics, the soft cotton and the kind of rougher essex.
All in all i really love this one and - as said above - can´t wait to get it out for the season again. And that´s how it should be with a christmas quilt, don´t you think?

thanks for visiting and enjoy the quilt-show!!
