over these lovely quiet days i made some progress with the square dance quilt.
i cut all the colored fabrics already - which is remarkable for me because often i "cut as i go". and that´s because i don´t like the cutting too much (does anybody?). but then it is soo nice to just put all the pieces together and simply get sewing.. and this outweights some dreadful hours of cutting so i am planning on doing this in the future, too.
this is the little scribbled layout i made for the quilt:
i am not very good at drawing but this does help so much laying out the pieces in the right direction which is kind of important when making a "woven" pattern.
at the first blocks i struggeled hard with straight 1/4" seams, despite my beloved quarter inch foot only to find out that the footholder on my sewing machine was loose and after fastening it with a screwdriver everything is all nice and straight again.
Well, as straight as i can sew anyway
today i will sew another 4 blocks for this quilt, not more because, ahem, i ran out of white fabric.. :-)
this is my very first use of that much white Kona cotton in a quilt and of course i do not have enough! i hope i can get some tomorrow and i will definitely order some yardage at my favorite Kona Cotton dealer, the fabric shack.
enjoy your sunday!!
