Last weekend i was in London. And it was great: wonderful spring weather, a very nice hotel ( the hoxton) in the cool East End, nice food and friendly people whenever i met someone.

On Saturday I did some shopping at places i just knew online was eager to see:
John Lewis - loved that modern, design-oriented departmentstore! great kitchen stuff, brands like Orla Kiely, Nigella, Kidston, plus great bed and bath section (i saw some sweet Amy Butler towels). And a wonderful food area.
Liberty - finally! of course i love that one, too, all of their fabrics and haberdashery, but i also liked the home-scent and beauty section and the tableware-room. It is as impressive on the inside as it looks on the outside!!
Marylebone High Street - wonderful street away from the crowds with special little shops like Cath Kidston (yeah, I think i am over her..), Designers Guild (great scented candles - and fabrics of course) and even a Farrow and Ball shop (saw a color online lately which i checked out there for real). Plus a big Conran shop and lots and lots of restaurants, pubs and bars. I highly recommend that area!

On Sunday the group i was with (we were testing a new london travel guide btw) took a special tour around the East End, including Brick Lane Market, which was very impressive: tons of mostly young people, lots of international food and arts and crafts all around. Plus a lot of junk, too, like it is at those markets. But still, a great experience.

However, after all this was kind of a test-run: i will be back to London in June already, when i will attend the Fat Quarterly Retreat, yay!! And then i will stay a bit longer..

Letztes Wochenende war ich in London. Und super war´s: schönstes Frühlingswetter, ein super Hotel (the hoxton) im angesagten East End, lecker Essen und wann immer ich mit jemandem gesprochen habe, waren alle wahnsinning freundlich.

Am Samstag war ich shoppen, und zwar in Läden, die ich bislang nur online kannte:
John Lewis - modernes Kaufhaus mit einem tollen Sinn für Designer-Zeug. Super Hausratabteilung mit Marken wie Orla Kiely, Nigella, Cath Kidston usw. Dazu noch eine fast ebenso gute Bett und Bad Abteilung: dort hab ich ganz süße Amy Butler Handtücher gesehen, die passen aber bei mir nicht so recht rein. Und ganz unten noch eine Lebensmittelabteilung, die Spaß macht!
Liberty - endlich mal! Quasi das Mutterschiff für Stoffe und Handarbeitskram aller Art, das mir natürlich ebenfalls sehr gefallen hat. Dort auch eine tolle Duft und Kosmetik Abteilung, und auch der Porzellan-Raum ist super. Innen ebenso beeindruckend wie von außen.
Marylebone High Street - schöne Einkaufsstraße abseits der Massen mit kleinen, besonderen Läden wie Cath Kidston (tja, über sie bin ich nun leider weg, glaube ich..), Tricia Guild (super Duftkerzen und natürlich schönste Deko-Stoffe) oder Farrow and Ball (ein Farbenladen. Eine bestimmte Farbe fiel mir neulich online mal positiv auf, die hab ich mir dann gleich mal live angesehen und auch noch ein Farbkarte mitgenommen). Dazu noch in großer Terence Conran Shop und jede Menge Restaurants, Pubs und Bars. Wirklich eine schöne Ecke, sehr empfehlenswert!!

Am Sonntag hatte dann die Gruppe, mit der ich unterwegs war (wir haben übrigens einen neuen London Reiseführer getestet), noch eine Führung durch das momentan sehr angesagte East End, inclusive des Brick Lane Markets, der total beeindruckend war: Massen von Leuten, jede Menge internationales Essen zu guten Preisen und ansonsten Kunsthandwert und Second Hand Zeug ohne Ende. Dabei natürlich auch einiges an Plunder, aber so ist das eben auf solchen Märkten. Nichtsdestotrotz eine super Sache!

Diese beiden Tage waren im Nachhinein allerdings quasi nur ein Vorab-Test für meinen nächsten London Besuch, schon im Juni: ich werde nämlich zum Fat Quarterly Retreat fahren, yay!! Und dann bleib ich etwas länger..

Ich will auch nach London.... du Glückliche! Klingt ja alles ganz toll, was du gemacht und erlebt hast. Vielleicht kann ich mir dann bei meinem Trip das ein oder andere, was du beschrieben hast, anschauen. Klasse post!
Looks like it was a wonderful getaway, I'm totally jealous! I wish I could come to the retreat, maybe in a few years when my kids are bigger. Great shopping score - look at the lovely roll of paper!!

Ich fahre auch nach London zum Retreat :) Danke für die netten Reisetipps. War schonmal eine Woche dort und sammel jetzt schon sehenswerte Reiseziele.

Liebe Martina, das ist ja wacker, dass du in der Fastenzeit auf Süßes verzichtest!! Ich wünschte, ich könnte das auch.. Gutes Durchhaltevermögen dir!
Ich bin sooooo neidisch, kann aber nicht mitkommen, weil ich im Urlaub bin, in Utah. Da gibt es auch schoene Stoffe, aber ich waere so gern dabeigewesen und haette Euch auch gern mal kennengelernt.
Ach schade, Ulrike!! Aber Utah ist natürlich auch ein Knaller.. da bin ich ja ganz neidisch :-) Wir schaffen das irgendwann doch nochmal mit einem Treffen!
i am thinking really hard about coming to the retreat... i'm not one for doing things by myself though, and i don't know anyone here in germany yet. your pictures make it MUCH more tempting though! :)
